John Pentland, standing for the first time, held this previously safe Labour seat with a much reduced majority, taking over from retiring MSP and former First Minister, Jack McConnell. Clare Adamson was subsequently elected for the first time through the regional list for the SNP. Three challengers lost their deposits in this seat with the Liberal Democrats finishing bottom behind much smaller parties.

Notes: Given boundary changes since 2007, variations in votes and share between seats with different boundaries would be misleading. We use the Denver figures, essentially a calculation of the 2007 votes cast within 2011 boundaries. More information on this here.
